A year
I ran the Dave Staff Memorial fell race today, the same race last year was my first step into the world of fell racing, so an anniversary of sorts for me. I'm waiting for the results to go online but I think I was actually a little bit slower than last year (maybe 2 minutes slower?). I had an initial twinge of disappointment about being slower, but then I thought about it logically. I'm not just trying to make excuses but, I raced yesterday, and the reality is that last year I couldn't have contemplated racing twice in one weekend, the 5.1 miles of the race took my mileage for the week to 23 miles, which is more than I've done without injuring myself for, well, for so long I can't remember. I felt pretty good while I was racing too! I'm pleased with how far I've come. This race is already on the diary for next year, be interesting to see how the next 12 months pan out.

Well done, racing twice in one weekend is tough.
I didn't make it as due to an unintentional very late and heavy night on Friday (and the realisation that as a 35 year old I should not try to keep up with 23 year olds) meant a completely written off Saturday and a woolly legged Sunday. Got out for a spin on the MTB but nothing hard.
I have kicked myself repeatedly over it!
Not only did you race yesterday you've had a bad back for weeks.
To only be 2mins slower is a fantastic achievement.
Though I think you're a bit bonkers doing two races in as many days, you have done exactly that and so are bound to be a weeny bit tired! Here's to a very happy anniversary! Very well done.
Well done for getting out there two days in a row- with this shite weather as well!
congratulations on your first year of fell running (and a foray into cross country!!) :)
times don't always matter and like you say you've not had the perfect lead up. looking forward to joining you on running adventures in your next 12 months
Sounds like a good race! Soon two races a weekend will be normal and then you will be doing crazy things like kate (I'm pretty sure you are never going to be as crazy as red!). That weekly mileage beats most of my monthly mileages for the year!
Maybe if it doesn't clash I might be tempted next year!
julbags - I looked at all the Chorley vests to see if I could spot you.
red, rb, jane, kate - thanks :0)
trio - it's a really good race, all the climbing is got out of the way in one massive push up to the tower, loads of people (including me) walk it, then it's just nicely undulating.
Doesn't seem like a year since last time. Yes well done still a respectable time after racing the day before as well. Practice required for the Pennine relay.
well done. be proud of yourself.
