Postponed

OK, my marathon plans are definitely postponed. It just all got too complicated, and as several friends have reminded me, it is supposed to be fun.

This race, just not meant to be. I had a few moments of self recrimination, then told myself to get a grip. Sometimes the hardest things about racing is getting to the start line, the training needs to be right, the rest, the nutrition, injury and accident avoided, sometimes it's needing the right support, and in this case more organisation and less dog!

I've got my eye on the calendar, there is a race in Fleetwood and one in Skipton, both look potentially suitable. I'll have a think, see what works, tweak the training, so the miles go up then back down to work out right for a race.

Many thanks for those that have wished me luck, given advice etc, please keep those thoughts positive thoughts on hold for another day.

Aww, glad your upbeat about things though. My only concern about Fleetwood would be if it goes near the lower prom walk thingy towards Blackpool as it's concrete...killed my knees on the Blackpool half that did so much so that I never want to run on it again!

The Yorkshireman offroad mara is in September.

I would definetly get planning another event, then you can plan your training and use the fitness you have built up!

Sounds like a sensible decision and I'm sure you'll find another event you want to do. Good luck :)

The Yorkshire offroad mara looks a really good event, can be entered as a pair. Any takers?

Sounds like you're happy with your decision, I've done Fleetwood, it was particularly windy as I remember and the sea front concrete a bit tough on my old legs, a nice event though.

Off road marathon would be more fun, and is very pretty... might even see you there ;) RB

i've always liked the look of that one. unfortunately it's the same day as the nottingham mara. if you fancy a road one, you're more than welcome to stop at ours. i'll be providing full roadside support ;)

I did the Yorkshireman in 2007 as my one attempt at a marathon. Really enjoyed it. Might even be more your thing? Recommended.

Not a mad amount of climbing and good terrain. I ran it with a mate, definitely helped pass the time and gives you a second opinion on the (rare) navigation questions.
