Two Crosses

Just shy of 18 miles on the Two Crosses LDWA Challenge event today. The first of this type of event I've ever done, I had been told that the many checkpoints would have refreshments, but nothing had quite prepared me for what lay ahead. The first checkpoint had a marquee full of food, seriously tempting to drop into walker mode, pull up a chair and stuff my face, instead stuck to a couple of jaffa cakes and some jelly babies and kept on trotting. Every other checkpoint had at least water or squash and some sweeties. And, on a bleak bit of moor how could I not avail of a wee dram of scotch at "The Naughty Corner," the navigation did go a bit wobbily a couple of times after this, but this is pure coincidence! The feeding wasn't restricted to the hills either, upon returning to Event HQ in Tottington there was unlimited hot tea, homemade soup, bread, cakes, jelly and fruit. A great morning out, superbly organised, I'd do another LDWA event without hesitation. Thanks to Michelle for letting me tag along with her for the entire route. We finished, all smiles in 4hrs 2 mins.

Haha, I thought "that's an awful lot of checkpoints for 18 miles" then I clicked the link.. Walking, that's a lot of exercise. serves me right for being so totally cylclecentric huh? Well done.

Notthewowy - ha yeah, not about the bike. Marathon training and the LDWA Challenge events welcome runners, so a nice steady run in the hills seemed just the job.

kate - cheers. I don't think these are the sort of events where you get a PB of any kind. Too much socialising!

Sounds like it went well! Whiskey is this a new energy drink?

Does the W stand for walk?
(I know you'll have run it)

I have seriously got to enter another event thats full of cake (and doesn't involve doing anything too hard like running 18 miles!)

Well done! You'll be hooked now! Did one in January and was down to do this too the 25 miler but it clashed with the Edale Skyline after it got cancelled :-( We will meet properly one day soon!! Are you running on wednesday - I'm going to try and get over.

Well done, that's very impressive - you're definitely carrying everything at Saunders! I've always fancied the LDWA events but never done one. Off to look at the website now....

Red - yep, Long Distance Walking Assoc. They know how to bake!

Emma - I'm a bit unlikely for this Wednesday, unless I can get out of something else. It's a club meeting night so the run is shorter/earlier, check with Adrian before just turning up.

Jane - It was a good event. A really relaxed way to get a long run in without the pressure of a race.
