Friday fun

The advantage of being self-(un)-employed and having numerous mates who are also self-employed, students or do shift work is that opportunities present themselves to get out on the hills on weekdays when you can have the place mostly to yourself. Yesterday was such a day. A trundle north on the M65 and a series of ever smallening roads and I met up with Tess in the car park in Horton-in-Ribblesdale. Armed with map and guide book we set off to do a 30km route that sort of circumnavigated Pen-y-gent. We were lucky with the weather for all but the last 8km, and even then the threatened torrential rain didn't get much past a heavy spit. There were quite a few evil climbs that required a lot of pushing but somehow by the time we were in the cafe these were banished from my mind and I was declaring the ride the best I'd done in ages and a total success. I think the stunning Yorkshire landscape had a lot to do with that. Top day out.

another place i've never ridden. "best ride"-will add it to the ever growing 'to do' list :)

It was a shame you couldn't make it as it, very beautiful bit of the country. (And the cafe did pint mugs of tea!)

I've still got horrible memories of pushing up those Yorkshire hills when Trio talked me into riding there.

Mind you the hills were easier going than the bogs on top of them were.

Sounds like a lovely day though am v jealous of the self-employed arrangement, I'm working on my Dragon's Den pitch as a ploy to escape the shackles of office life. Its not going terribly well.

Thought I would see what's going on at home. Lindsay and me have just been sat here in Whistler just discussing rides in that area, and how boggy it can be !!
