Beach running
I actually got organised enough to put my running kit in the car and take with me to Uni today. Lecture and seminar but managed to finish about 3pm so drove down and parked up in St Annes. A quick change into my kit in the car and I was off running on the beach. Only did 30 minutes but it felt like a good workout, did the last half mile in the dunes, hard on the legs and I managed to spear my finger on the marram grass. I was wearing and photographed my new slightly weird Inov8 socks, have a sort of built in gaiter/debris skirt. Hardly any sand in my shoes so def recommend them for beach running. Hope now I've got organised enough to have one beach run I'll do more of them.

I've never seen socks like that before--neat!
excellent training for the marathon des sables ;)
That was my thought as well kate.
I used to run bare feet on the beach in america so didn't worry about sand ;)
Kate - Marathon Des Sables, seriously hardcore, is it one you've considered?
Trio - I wouldn't want to risk running bare feet on Blackpool beach, it's a bit better now than a few years ago, but the Irish Sea is still pretty polluted, all sorts gets washed up.
I was guessing that, I never ran barefoot at st andrews either and that is a blue flag beach, but then getting there was a bit far, in America I lived one block away so it was easier and we used to do it as part of lifeguard training as well.
I can say I will never be doing marathon des sables, I just couldn't cope with the pain and suffering, I have a friend who wants to do it though, crazy girl!
no way! just think of the chaffing! i'm more drawn to cold climes
kate - Iditarod invitational for you then? Can choose whether to bike it or run it. You'd definitely need to go for that sleeping bag upgrade though.
just googled it-yes! i'll add that to my (massive) wish list
kate - check out Jill Homers Up In Alaska blog there is a link over there --> she rode it last year and her partner Geoff ran it link over there too --> fumbling towards endurance.
It's a fab blog and she has just published a book!
There is also shaggy who is riding it this year

Probably worth a look as he has to train over here. I'm not sure how I would get on with extreme temperatures like that.
thanks for the links. i'm off work again so going to get another cuppa and settle down to some serious vicarious adventures :)
Definetly use the time to read adventures, that's when I need a laptop so I can read them in bed!
kate - what about this http://www.msm.no/polar-night-half-marathon.9702.en.html
