No return

I never liked PE at school. I wasn't a sporty youth. My twenties were a good period for parties. I took up running at 33 with the intention of being able to do 5km race. I don't know what happened to make me think the 38th year of my life was the ideal opportunity to take up ultra running. But somehow now, I feel like I'm beyond the point of no return.

12 days until HPM. I'm tapering down. That could be a training strategy. Or code for, my legs are really sore and I don't want to do much for a few days. I've never trained for anything like this so it's been a bit of a learning experience. I don't know that I've done enough miles. I'm sure I could have trained more/better, and eaten a lot less/better to have been in generally better shape. But it's too late for any of that.

We'll have to see what happens a week on Friday when I'm out there, I'm optimistic for finishing, it's just how badly it hurts. Whatever happens, I feel like it will all put me in a good position for moving forward to focus on The Highland Fling.

Ultra running. A mid life crisis with a difference.

Only 12 days...checks date...my birthday weekend. Taper well. Oh and 38 isn't midlife..it just isn't (I'm 37 on the 5th).

Am eagerly waiting with anticipation of the result. Good luck, break a leg (figure of speech not literal) and all that. RB
