Race report

I woke up a bit discombobulated and not really feeling much like racing but off I went to do the Gill Pimblott Memorial 5km in Tyldsley. Met up with Trio and Ali as I got my race number, was surprised but pleased to see Ali was racing, hopefully this means she's mended now! A really nice course, well marshalled, very friendly atmosphere. I finished somewhere near the back (25'38"), I didn't get the results print out so don't know my exact position, I was however first in my category (advantages of being old) so won a big tin of choccies, presented by Ron Hill, who'd also happily posed for a photo just past the finish line too.

I had a good afternoon, despite anxieties I'd had, running in a club vest is actually really nice, having a club name printed on your shirt gives people something to yell out and the extra personal encouragement is nice. I was pleased with my time but similar to the club race on Wednesday I don't feel I pushed myself as hard as I could. I've got hardly any race experience and I'm hoping as I do a few more races I'll get better at judging pace. I also have a suspicion I'm more suited to a longer distance than 5km, I feel like just as I'm warmed up, past feeling all painful and in a bit of a groove, the race is over. I'm going to look for some longer races to enter and see how I go.

I think I was just get warmed up as well. Although I certainly did push myself hard!

You finished 64th out of 80 finishers, so not really at the back!

Great race and thanks for suggesting it!

I know what you mean about the club vest thing - my name changes to "Chorley" for the duration of a race! Even on the rain drenched Coniston trail race a gate marshal shouted it out really cheered me up at the time.
